Biography

Matt joined the firm in August 2006. He primarily focuses his practice on general civil litigation (including but not limited to personal injury and contract disputes), family law (including but not limited to contested/uncontested divorce, adoptions, child custody, and post-divorce representation including custody modification and contempt, and contested and uncontested conservatorships), criminal defense at the state and federal levels, and estate planning, including the drafting of Last Will and Testaments, Prenuptial Agreements, Powers of Attorney and Living Wills. Matt graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts and graduated law school in 2006 with an emphasis on trial practice. Since his return to Johnson City where he was born and raised, he has served on numerous local boards including the Dawn of Hope, Hands On! children's museum, the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce and Johnson City American Little League. Matt is a past vice president and president of the Washington County Bar Association (2009, 2010) and is also a co-founder of the Lawyers Helping People Committee, which has been praised statewide for its contributions in helping indigent members of the community obtain legal help. He is a member in good standing of the American Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. In his spare time, Matt enjoys watersports and getting outside in the woods with his wife, two sons and golden retrievers, Ralph and Betty.
